This is a very special redesign for an out-of-state Client. This Client has been a fan of mine for several years, but it wasn't until 2020 that we got the chance to meet. She just happened to be in town when I was having an event, so it was a perfect opportunity for us to meet up and have a little design session.
You see, she had these beautiful materials from her mother and herself, and felt so guilty for not wearing them. But I said, “let's remove the guilt and have fun with it”! And that’s just what we did.
Celestial Inspiration
We started with one of the signature pieces from my Celestial Collection, the Crater Necklace featuring a rainbow moonstone. I love a good rainbow moonstone - neutral, but with a pop of marbling color. Also, the shape of the necklace lends itself very well to being used in multiple ways as either a statement necklace or it can be easily layered as a combination necklace. The Client knew she loved this design, but wanted to know how we could incorporate her gemstones into it. Knowing she had 14k yellow gold and diamonds to work with, we were able to sketch out the perfect design for her - right on the spot.
The final layout
We settled on a layout that places the center diamond from her ring and the stud diamonds from her earrings opposite of the rainbow moonstone. Of course we had to use the gold to bring in a two-toned element and I can’t think of a better way to use it than to set the diamonds in it!
Signature granules
One thing I truly enjoy about recycling metals is the process of creating settings from those metals. Of course it would always be easier to buy premade settings, but then that doesn't lend itself well to using what we have in hand. Keeping that in mind, I've come up with a really good process for reusing metals by creating my signature “granule” look and then custom forming the “granule” settings to fit the exact stones that we have on hand. This process does take time, but the result is beautiful and knowing that we are able to work the metals directly into the pieces that we make...that is special!
A super stellar stunner
So here we have it! Our very own Over the Moon Necklace. created just for my client using her and her mother's diamonds with a pop of 14K yellow gold - a super stellar stunner!
