It's no surprise, I love stacking rings! This project was so much fun because my Client came to me with the idea to create a trio of stacking rings using a ruby from her father as the centerpiece. As you'll see below, this ruby was very special to my Client, but it was set in such a tiny thin band that had gotten badly bent out of shape over time, to the point that it was no longer able to be worn. My Client wanted to give this ruby a new way to shine, so what better way to do so than to create a ring trio with the ruby right in the middle, surrounded by diamonds on both sides. And you know, with stacking, everything is so versatile - which is the best part of the process!
Inspiration
For this project, we took a different approach. I already had one of my signature designs in mind (seen in the middle), featuring a sapphire. The Client loved the look of that ring and it happened to be the perfect east-west orientation, which would work great for her ruby. So that's where we began.
If the shoe fits...
I also already had a band ready to go for the bottom part of the stack, featuring a trio of diamonds to cradle the bottom half of the ruby. That was a winner! No need to mess with something that already works beautifully.
The beauty in asymmetry
However, for the top of the stack, I had this idea to feature a more organic band. It just happened to be an earring - a hoop earring at that, but it had the perfect diamond patterning to offset the trio and give this stack a little asymmetrical symmetry. I put the hoop earring on my finger, along with the sapphire ring and the trio diamond ring and sent a picture to the Client to see what she thought of this interesting idea. Turned out to be the perfect fit for this Client, so off to the making we went.
A new home for “ruby”
Isn't this just the cutest trio? And it's so versatile too! The Client can wear each ring individually, as a double or as a triple stack, mixing and matching to fit all of her different events and occasions. These 18K yellow gold beauties shine so bright and that ruby- isn't she just amazing in her new setting?

While some commissions are “built from the ground up”, other commissions can be as simple as modifications of my current signature collections. Both of these scenarios are so much fun to work with and the results are always rewarding! Not sure which option is the best for you? Reach out and let’s chat!
