This adorable couple was looking for an upgrade to their wedding ring set for their 16th anniversary. They wanted something that would match their free-spirited, artistic personalities, but were struggling to find anything that tugged on their heartstrings at their local traditional retailers. That’s when they stumbled upon my Instagram page! (Shout-out to my social media team.)
After exchanging a few DMs and emails, the couple decided to drive down to Savannah from Tennessee to meet up in person. Here’s the story of how I designed this Romanic Rose Ring (and corresponding wedding bands) for a one-of-a-kind couple.
Savannah Design Session
Whenever possible, I love meeting up with clients in person. Whether for a personal shopping experience or a commission design session, meeting one-on-one helps me get a true feel for the client’s preferences and vision. That’s why I was so happy this couple took the leap and came down to visit me in Savannah.
We clicked right away, and it was clear that our artistic sensibilities aligned perfectly. After a ton of sketching and looking at different parts and pieces, we came up with the ideal design.
The Inspiration: Regal Rosey Trio and more!
Several past projects served as inspiration for this design, but none more so than the Regal Rosey Trio. The client loved the two-toned style and we quickly opted for a combination of white and rose gold. She also loved the idea of a thick, sturdy bezel, like the Bezel Beauty, and a wavy band reminiscent of the Roaring Rapids ring. She definitely wanted accent diamonds like those in the Spectacular Sapphire commission but with a more asymmetrical layout. All these inspirations gave me a great direction to run with for this ring!
For the wedding band, the client loved the Windswept Whisper, but we wanted to go with bigger diamonds and keep the two-toned style to match the engagement ring. Finally, for her husband’s wedding band, we went with a style that was a combination of my three most popular men’s bands: Ocean, Bay, and Delta. More on that later!
A Multi-Step Process
Our first step was sourcing the perfect diamond. We selected a beautiful 2.5ct. lab-grown elongated oval diamond, for which I would CAD design a custom bezel in 18K rose gold. But before I built the bezel, I wanted to create the base for all three rings.
I first crafted the bases in silver then sent them off to be cast in 18K white gold. Once I got them back, I added all the fun hand-texturing and details. I hand-fabricated all the rose gold bezels and set them super low into the wedding band, so the piece would be comfortable to wear.
For the husband’s wedding band, we went with all the wave and texture of the Ocean Band, but at a custom width and texture, proof that there’s plenty of room to customize men’s pieces as well!
Here’s what the client had to say about the process:
“Thank YOU so much for everything. Meeting you and working with you has been a learning experience and a joy. I’m so glad our vibes aligned and everything went smoothly and you helped me find what I was looking for. I cannot wait to see what you have created!!! Thank you so much, Kristen!”
The Final Pieces
Just when I was ready to ship this beautiful suite of rings off to the happy couple, Hurricane Helene swept into Savannah, knocking out power and grinding UPS to a halt. Never a dull moment! The couple had to wait in anticipation for an extra four days before I was able to safely send the rings on their way.
But it was worth the wait! I’m so proud of the final product and how everything came together.
But don’t take my word for it!
"Girrrrll the package has been received and we are in love!!! Everything fits perfectly and it turned out more perfect than I could have imagined! THANK YOUUUUU!!!! What a great day!
I’ve just been staring at every little detail today (and loving it and am so impressed!). We are getting to know one another loving having some weight on my finger. I’ve just been in like sparkle heaven all day and for many more days to come! And D is super pleased also. His turned out beautifully! Everything is perfect and it was more than worth the wait! Thank you so much again. You’ve made me so happy."
