I love working on projects for friends that I've known for years. This project was for a very special friend that was celebrating his and his wife’s 25th wedding anniversary. I've known him since I graduated from college, and with their military life, oh, they have traveled near and far. Fortunately, they are back in Savannah and just in time for this milestone anniversary. Read on to see how this Sapphire Sweetheart Ring took shape in the most beautiful of ways.
Forming the Ring
For this piece we wanted to do a two-tone white and yellow gold ring, incorporating a sapphire birthstone along with three diamonds accenting each side. We chose to do a white gold band with a really minimal wave for a clean and elegant look. Around the sapphire and the diamonds, we decided to add 18 karat yellow gold accents for a rich and buttery color pop. Once the middle and accent bezels were added, the ring began to take form.
It’s all in the details
Once the ring was fully fabricated and put together in its two-toned glory, it was time to start the cleaning and polishing process and start the stone-setting process. Meticulous attention was taken to open up each of the tiny settings to perfectly fit the diamonds, giving the ring the ultimate, but also “just-the-right” amount of sparkle. Once the side stones were set, it was time to start on the center stone - the beautiful oval, in a brilliant cornflower blue-colored sapphire.
It’s a showstopper
The final cleaning really brought this Sapphire Sweetheart to life. Lots and lots of texturing, detailing and intricate hand-polishing took this ring from average to excellent. It’s a true showstopper!
The perfect fit
Like a bride in her wedding dress, the anniversary ring has to be just as beautiful as it is comfortable. I was so excited when my friend reported back that his wife loved the ring and the sentiment as well.
