I love being a part of different milestones in people's or couple’s lives. This project was the perfect example - 44th year of marriage and a need & want for replacement wedding bands. How special! This couple reached out to me and were ready to create something remarkable in celebration of their journey together. Read on to see how these Wandering Waves Wedding Bands were created to help celebrate this lovely couple’s wandering voyage.
His and hers
The design started out with an idea to create a coordinating set of “his and her” wedding bands. We wanted to use 14K yellow gold for the base as a nod to their original wedding bands, but felt that something was missing - an added special touch, perhaps? After a few sketches and some brainstorming, we decided to incorporate some wandering waves into the design, as a nice reference to their life and journey together. Ebbs and flows. Ups and downs. Basically, the back and forth of a long and happy 44-year marriage. We decided to inlay the “river” in fine silver to capture this essence of the ups, downs, ebbs and flows.
A fun challenge
We started by cutting the perfect channel for the fine silver inlay. As a bonus, fine silver is so malleable and soft that we were able to inlay it perfectly into the cutout channel. It’s smooth like butter! After getting both pieces soldered together to form the rough ring flat shape it was time to form the rings into circles to fit the finger. I love utilizing different processes and experimenting with various techniques to achieve the perfect design. This one was a true challenge, but a fun challenge nonetheless!
Wonderful Wandering Waves
So, there we have it, folks - the Wandering Waves in a coordinating “his and her” set. Both rings came out beautifully in their 14K yellow gold bands with inlaid fine silver waves. Each boasts a unique brushed surface texture, a nice thick edge, and topped off with a modern profile. The clients were thrilled with their duo and I truly enjoyed this special milestone project. I was delighted to receive the following review just days after delivery of their special pieces:
