Dazzling diamonds are without a doubt the most well-known and coveted gemstones on earth. They’re cherished for their sparkle and association with love, riches, and glamour. They’re so popular in fact, that those of you with April birthdays may think you already know everything there is to know about diamonds. But here at Kristen Baird® we always have a few tricks up our sleeves. From color to creation, I’m going to introduce you to a side of diamonds you’ve never seen before.
Fancy Diamonds
Did you know diamonds can come in a variety of gorgeous colors? You may have seen a picture of the stunning green diamond engagement ring Ben Affleck gave to JLo (round 2)! These gems, known as Fancy Diamonds, happen to be some of my absolute favorites. (You know I like stepping off the beaten path!) Blue and pink fancy diamonds are among the rarest stones in the world - and the most expensive. Fortunately, other shades are just as unique while being much more attainable.
Consider, for example, the luscious and mysterious black diamond. Black diamonds are elegant, evocative, and - dare I say it - a little bit sexy. If a black diamond were a person, she’d be the sophisticated and brilliant lady spy who goes toe-to-toe with James Bond. And who doesn’t want that wrapped up in a ring!

Lab-Grown Diamonds
Then again, colorless diamonds aren’t really colorless, are they? A well-cut diamond will reflect all the colors of the rainbow and there is truly nothing on earth more sparkly. And I LOVE sparkly things! At times, natural “out of the ground” diamonds can be costly, which makes them a challenging choice for birthday jewelry. This is one of the reasons I highly recommend considering lab-grown diamonds.
Lab-grown diamonds are not synthetic; they are 100% real diamonds in every sense of the word. The only difference is they were grown in a lab rather than under the earth. In addition to being more environmentally friendly, lab diamonds are significantly more affordable. (Up to 30% less per carat than natural diamonds - maybe more, at times.) Now you can pamper yourself on your birthday without breaking the bank!
