Shades of Sapphire: Yellow, Pink, Green, and more!

Kristen Baird

Sapphires are September’s birthstone and some of the most prized and beloved gemstones in the world. Most people are familiar with sapphires and know what they look like - or at least they think they do! While sapphires are usually associated with a deep blue color, they actually come in every shade of the rainbow. Believe it or not, even rubies are really red sapphires. Who knew?

This September, I’m highlighting some of my favorite Kristen Baird® designs in a variety of sapphire shades.

Earrings and Necklaces

Shades of Sapphire - Earrings and Necklaces

Petite Pop in Green and Yellow Sapphire - The Petite Pop necklace is the perfect birthday gift. It’s great for layering and stacking, available in every conceivable birthstone, and looks beautiful in both silver and gold. You can opt for traditional blue sapphire or switch things up with green or yellow sapphire - or all three!

Daisy Studs in Yellow Sapphire - This brand-new design started as a commission and I loved it so much I’m adding it to my collection! The three petite diamonds complement a gorgeous oval yellow sapphire. The color is as bright and cheery as a daisy.

Petite Lavender Gem Studs in Blue Sapphire - These adorable studs are an all-time favorite birthday gift and - guess what - they are available in several shades of sapphire including yellow, green, and of course blue! Go ahead a pick your favorite. It’s your day, after all.

Bonus: Mini Supernova Earrings in Ruby - Ruby is the birthstone of July, but if you have a September birthday and red is your color, you’re in luck. Rubies are the red variety of the mineral corundum. Every other variety of corundum is a sapphire, so technically they are all the same mineral. If anyone questions you, just tell them I told you so!

Statement Rings and Stackers

Shades of Sapphire - Statement Rings and Stackers

Morning Dewdrops in Rose Gold with Pink Sapphire - The Morning Dewdrops ring is my only stacker with an emerald-cut stone, which makes it particularly unique. I just made a new version in yellow sapphire, which will go beautifully with the Daisy Studs!

Moonlit Waters in Rose Gold and Champagne Sapphire - Like a sparkling bottle of rose, this champagne sapphire stone gives me that warm and fuzzy feeling. I love this feminine ring as both a statement piece and a stacking ring. You truly can’t go wrong.

Diamond Shoreline in Yellow Sapphire - This ring style was originally created as a commission piece, but I swapped out the traditional diamond for a bright yellow sapphire and wow the entire piece was transformed. If you’re a September bride with a love for sunshine, this ring might just be for you.

Pansy Petals Yellow Sapphire - The Pansy Petals ring features a lovely cushion-cut gemstone on my signature ripple band. It’s available in a variety of gemstone colors, including bright yellow sapphire!

Lily Pads by the Pond in Green Sapphire - Green sapphire is a great alternative or complement to emeralds if you love green shades. It’s a deeper, mossier shade that reminds me of the Spanish moss that hangs from the trees in Savannah.

Sapphire Stunners

Shades of Sapphire - Stunners

Primrose Ring in Yellow Sapphire - In case you can’t tell, I’ve been a little bit obsessed with yellow sapphire recently. The Primrose ring takes its inspiration from a delicate bunch of flowers gently unfolding their petals. This yellow gold version is a stunning engagement ring or anniversary gift.

Moonlit Waters in Peach Sapphire - When I said sapphires come in every shade, I wasn’t kidding. I love the orangy-peach tone of this stone. It makes the perfect anchor piece for a colorful and eye-catching gold ring stack.

Fleur d’Amour in Morganite and Pink Sapphire - Speaking of romance, the Fleur d’Amour ring is absolutely swoon-worthy. The soft pink central stone is morganite, but the petite gemstones in each of the handcrafted fleurs are bright pink sapphires.

Beneath the Stars in Violet Sapphire - The Beneath the Stars ring remains one of my most beloved designs. This unique violet sapphire gemstone is truly a showstopper. Although it’s not one of the standard options for this ring, I can always track down this speciality stone for anyone who loves this soft purple color.

An Extra Special Sapphire Commission

Shades of Sapphire - Spectacular Engagement

Spectacular Sapphire Engagement - Most sapphires, even natural ones, undergo heat treatment to bring out their color. But every once in a while you come across a rare example of a completely natural and untreated blue sapphire. If you love sapphires, I highly encourage you to check out the Spectacular Sapphire Engagement commission piece, which features a truly show-stopping stone. Gorgeous!
